Comparison is something we all struggle with, especially in a world that’s constantly showing us what we don’t have. These Bible verses about comparison and contentment will help you fix your eyes on truth and find peace right where you are.
We all know what it’s like to curl up on the couch at the end of a long day, shut down our minds, and start scrolling our phone.
At first, it feels delicious. Funny memes we send to our friends. Recipes we bookmark to try. Songs we like and note to listen to again later.
But then there’s the ads. Ads for clothes I want that are a little too expensive. The friend from high school who bough a huge new house that you don’t know how they afford.
Gradually, you get that sinking feeling, and you end up feeling little heavier inside than before.
Comparison sneaks up on us in the most unexpected ways and times. And if we aren’t careful, it can start to consume us.

Why Comparing Ourselves to Others is Harmful
The reality is that why comparison can feel productive, it actually is something that only hurts us in the end.
Comparing ourselves to others is harmful because it is actually rooted in worry. Comparison is often based in anxiety and discontent, as we look beyond what God has given us to to figure out what we still lack.
Many of us live in this constant discontent, anxiety and worry without even realizing it. As a result, it affects our minds, our health, and even our relationships with the people in our lives!
When we can be conscience of comparison as it’s happening or even before it starts, it helps us to keep our peace and remain satisfied and content with what God has already given us.
For a little perspective on this, I love what Jesus says in Luke 12:25-26…
“Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life, since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?”
And then skip down to verses 29-31..
“And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.”
So how do we set our minds and our hearts on the things that really matter and not let comparison get to our heads?
