Hi welcome to MomLife Today! I’m Tracey and I am here with Bethany Hamilton, Soul Surfer Girl.

Tracey: Bethany, there are a lot of moms out there that want to have a strong relationship with their child. So I wonder if you could give them a little bit of advice maybe something that you and your mom have always done together that have really kept you close?

Bethany: Well, my mom has done a lot of things for me, and I know that she’s kind of been like my Prayer Warrior always praying for me in areas that she knows I need help with. And at the same time, she’ll like read the Bible with me and to me, which I always love that.

We’ll always just find fun things to do like play tennis, or go swimming, or shell picking and she’s always the one that has taken me surfing a lot. My dad has too. So it’s just fun to spend time together and yeah, I don’t mind being with my parents. It’s fun!

Tracey: Well, it’s interesting cuz you know, a lot of moms have this busy thing going on. They’re always busy, busy, busy. Sounds like your mom was had some really good intentional time with you?

Bethany: Yeah, I mean she worked really hard. And she had a couple of her jobs were really so that the kids could come with. We’d end up like, going around the whole island and then she would take us surfing and then go do some work and then come back and get us.

So we spent a lot of time with her growing up. She definitely took the time and invested time in us and I think that really made a big difference in our lives.

Tracey: That’s awesome. So moms, if you want to have a good relationship with your child and if you want your child to stay grounded in all those amazing things you’ve taught them, you need to make time for your kids. That’s what it sounds like to me! Thanks a bunch and we’ll see you next week on MomLife today.

Bethany: Aloha!
