I’d like to send accolades to all those dads out there.  Why?  Why not!

Growing up, I am sad to admit, I had very little respect for men. It’s strange to think back on that now. My father was loving, kind, a great provider, and brilliant. He could fix almost anything and made me laugh.

However, I was influenced by the things I saw in the media. Too often, TV shows portray men as lazy gluttons who couldn’t find their own shoes if it weren’t for a smart-mouthed kid and disrespectful wife. Or worse, men are portrayed as adolescent-minded creatures who have no control over their actions.

Now that I am married to a superhero of a man, I have come to see that the father and husband are really the rudder of the family. They are gifted, strong, powerful, and can guide their families in positive and productive directions. They are everyday heroes. They are gifts from God. But they have needs, too.

So, take a few minutes to tell your husband or father how much of a hero he is to you.

  1. Great post- I wholeheartedly agree that there is far too much “male bashing” in media and popular culture. Thanks for reminding us of the importance of honoring our husbands and fathers for the hard work they do every day in our families!

  2. It is so true that the media does so much harm to the family with the way it portrays men. I told my husband today that I was ready to stop watching TV all together and just pick and choose good movies. I just get tired of having to "sift"! Your post is a good reminder of how we need to view our men!!! Good job!

Thank you so much for this post! Back about a year ago – give or take – while in the hospital with my daughter, I noticed that everywhere I looked I saw dads with their children. I think that we are geared, even when we aren't thinking negative things, to think that dads don't fit into a nurturing type role. But that day there were fathers, both on the oncology wing (where I was) and on the acute care wing holding, rocking, playing, walking, giving medicine, cuddling… I was so touched by the sight of it.

  4. I do have to say that you have an absolutely wonderful dh.
