I am learning that sometimes as a mom, I get a lot of things wrong.
Watching one of my boys searching to find what God wants him to do (in what seems to me in some God forsaken places), I spend a lot of time crying out and praying the “Hannah prayers” for him. (Hannah prayers are the prayers so emptying that if anyone was looking on while you were praying, they would think you were drunk. 1 Samuel 1:13)
God is teaching me, by watching what most would call my “wayward” son, that HE IS EVERYWHERE! He will not leave nor forsake my child, just as He will never leave nor forsake me. God’s got it!
It occurred to me recently that, yes, I must pray for my son who desperately desires success (and it has cost him much) but I might be missing the boat. How? I spend many daytime and nighttime hours praying for him but just a fraction of time fervently praying for the other men in my life.
It occurred to me that, as a mom, I pray for the things I deem important while the “not so important” things are being lulled right out from under me. With God’s ways not being our ways, it is most likely that the ‘not so important’ may be just the things that are the most important.
It is hard for me to fathom the responsibility that our men have – to provide, protect, lead and grow, all at the same time. But I do know that apart from God, seeking what is important to Him and depending on the Holy Spirit for help and strength, that all our men (and EVERY woman for that matter) are wayward.
It may just be worse to be mediocre about the mighty God we serve, living for Him as an afterthought, than to go on a quest to find out just exactly what He may be wanting of you.
A couple of Sundays ago, I felt burdened to pray for the young men in my family. As I listed them (numbering 15 or more in their late teens or early twenties), very few seem passionate about God.
God has called our men to lead. We need to say some Hannah prayers for our young men. That they would LEAD, intensely, in the things of God.
I think as women, it is time for us to spend some fervent time praying for ALL our men.
Lord,
I pray for the young men in my family. That they would represent Christ ferociously and above all else desire to make YOU known.
In Jesus’ name, AMEN.
So, my Hannah prayers have changed and my prayers, that are now heard in Heaven will be new.
