Mom, Look at the Big Picture

Tracey: Today I’m here with Priscilla Shirer to talk about how we can look at the bigger picture as moms. Priscilla, can you encourage our moms to maybe draw back and look at the big picture, maybe instead of their little agenda that we so often have as mothers?

Priscilla: Yes yes. I will tell you that that is one of my main struggles in motherhood. Motherhood overall has just been an eye-opening kind of shocking experience for me!  

I’m normally a spontaneous, fly by the seat of my pants kind of girl. But you can’t do that when you’ve got schedules and nap times and people that need other things other than what your agenda is, right? 

So i’m learning very slowly but surely to loosen my grasp on my agenda and to just kind of, of course have a plan, but to go with the flow of the day… to be flexible.

I think that’s one of the main things that we as women have to have and that is an okay-ness if that’s a word, with being flexible with what may happen. Otherwise, you’ll just be irritated all day! You’ll be irritated all day because you cannot get done any one thing fully and completely the way you would like to.

You know, without the little interruptions you know, which really aren’t interruptions, right? Because whatever your primary focus is, that is not an interruption if it’s your primary focus. 

So we really have to determine – are the kids our primary focus or not?

Here are a few things the Bible has to add about where we fix our focus:

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” – Philippians 4:8

“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.” – Hebrews 12:2-3

“Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways.” – Proverbs 4:25-26
