On television, the Food Network’s “Cupcake Wars” is among its top shows. The contestants’ cupcakes are judged on taste, presentation and creativity. The show has made cupcakes top billing in the last several years. Today you may find them at weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, graduation parties, and among other celebrations. These delicacies may be on platters, on tree shape couplings, or showcased on platforms. They are decorated simply or fancifully. Cupcakes have become more than an edible delight; they are an art form and a businessman’s delight.
This summer, our four-year-old granddaughter and her little sister will visit us around her birthday, so we are hosting a “Cupcake Wars” party.
First, LeiLani and I will mix up a simple cake batter and bake them in her favorite cartoon character-themed cupcake papers, Little Princess. Now here is our party plan:
- Cover a table with a disposable cloth — good for messy cleanups.
- Each guest gets a fun place mat and a plastic knife for icing.
- At the center of the table, we’ll have bowls of sprinkles, edible sugar novelty items, colorful icings, and food paints and brushes, just to name a few.
- Have a cupcake tree to display their creations. Make certain the honoree has the top slot.
I found many of the items at a local craft store.
It’s all in fun — no judges — but a time to show off their creativity. Turn them loose!
Lastly, make certain that your camera is rolling from start to finish. These pictures make good memories.
