Scripture to Calm Anxiety: 17 Bible Verses for Peace (+ Printable Cards)

17 Bible verses to calm anxiety - Anxious girl laying on bed

Are you or your child dealing with anxiety and fear? It’s easy to feel helpless when we can’t take the fear away. But we can remind ourselves of the hope and promises of God to carry us through those hard moments. These scripture to calm anxiety are a must save for all of us.

About nine months ago, we moved our two young kids 500 miles away from almost everything they know.

At 7, my son had been through multiple moves already. But for my four-year-old daughter, this move shook her world.

For the first time ever, she was in a preschool where she knew no one. It was a new home, a new neighborhood, and a new routine.

I quickly started to realize after the move that she, in a lot of ways, had begun to shut down. She stopped looking at people when they spoke to her. She wouldn’t speak to anyone anywhere outside of our family. I started to wonder, “Have we messed her up forever because of this move??”

After a lot of googling and a lot of prayer, we found out she was dealing with a very specific social anxiety called selective mutism. We began seeing a specialist to help her work through the anxiety she was feeling.

But I also knew that something else in her heart (and my own) had to shake.

While she knew all about Jesus and how much He loved her, I wanted to help find some way to connect what we believe with the things that she was actually struggling with.

So as she starts kindergarten this year, I’ve been working through the Bible to find Bible verses we can recite in our house when things feel scary or difficult.

These are verses to remind all of us that no matter what types of anxiety we feel, God is always with us.
