What the Bible Tells Us About Being Body Positive
The Bible actually has quite a bit to say about how God created us, why He thinks of us the way He does, and how we should respond and think of His creation.
Here are a few body positive truths straight from Scripture:
1. You Were Intentionally Created by God — and He Doesn’t Make Mistakes
(See Psalm 139:13-14)
God didn’t just slap you together like IKEA furniture with a few screws missing. He knit you together, with care, detail, and purpose. Your body isn’t a mistake—it’s a masterpiece.
2. Your Worth Isn’t Tied to How You Look—It’s Rooted in Who You Belong To
(See 1 Samuel 16:7)
The world wants you to measure your value by your weight, wrinkles, or whether your jeans zip without a fight. God says, “Nope. I’m looking at your heart.” That’s where true beauty lies.
3. Your Body Is a Temple — Not Just a Project
(See 1 Corinthians 6:19-20)
Your body isn’t just something to “fix” or “perfect.” It’s a sacred space where God Himself dwells. That means we treat it with love, not shame. Caring for it isn’t vanity—it’s worship.

Must-Read Bible Verses on Body Image
In a culture that’s become more and more obsessed with filters, waist trainers and medical weight loss shots, I can’t help but feel there has to be more to our womanhood than this.
Here are 16 Bible verses on body image to memorize and recite to yourself whenever you’re having doubts about yourself.
1. 1 Peter 3:3-4 – “Your beauty should not come from outward adornment… Rather, it should be that of your inner self…”
Our worth isn’t defined by the mirror or the trendy outfit we’re wearing, but by the character God is shaping in us. We are free to focus less on chasing physical perfection and more on cultivating a spirit that reflects Christ. The result is that our outer presentation becomes a byproduct, not the main story.
2. Genesis 1:27 – “So God created mankind in his own image… male and female he created them.”
YOU bear the image of God! That means your body has inherent dignity and value, not dependent on size, shape, or fashion. You’re not a mistake, you’re a masterpiece made by the Master.
3. Ephesians 2:10 – “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works…”
Our value isn’t in how we look, but in whose we are and the purpose God has given us. The most important thing is how we live, move, and love with our bodies as part of God’s design.
4. Romans 12:1 – “Offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.”
God calls us to honor our bodies, because they are vessels for worship and service for Him! In other words, taking care of your physical body (in healthy ways) isn’t selfish; it’s a way of saying “God, this body You’ve given me is Yours for Your purposes.”
5. Song of Solomon 4:7 – “You are altogether beautiful, my darling; there is no flaw in you.”
God sees beauty in us, not because we’re flawless, but because He loves us fully and unconditionally. You are deeply loved as you are, not just “acceptable.” You’re beautiful in God’s eyes.
6. Isaiah 64:8 – “We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.”
We are the work of God’s hands made with purpose and on purpose! We should appreciate our bodies as God’s unique artistry, not something to be compared or criticized.
7. Matthew 6:25 – “Do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink… or about your body, what you will wear…”
Jesus tells us not to obsess over what we eat, drink, or wear… things that often fuel body image anxiety. This verse reminds us we can trust God with our needs and stop letting the world’s pressures dictate what we’re concerned about.
8. 2 Corinthians 4:16 – “Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.”
Even as our physical bodies age or change, our spirits are growing stronger and more beautiful. I love that this verse flips the script on body shame by shifting the focus to inner renewal that only God can bring.
9. Colossians 3:12 – “Clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.”
Our kindness, humility, and gentleness matter more than any size label or mirror reflection. When we “get dressed” in these virtues, true beauty shines in ways makeup never could.
10. Isaiah 43:1 – “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.”
You are known, named, and claimed by God. That truth alone silences every lie culture throws at you. Instead of letting your body define your worth, let your identity in Him be the source of your value.
11. Galatians 1:10 – “Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God?”
When we chase human approval, we set ourselves up for exhaustion in every possible way. This is not a competition. God calls us to live for His approval, not the world’s applause. If you’re stuck in a cycle of comparison and performance, this is a verse to memorize.
12. Romans 9:20– “Who are you, a human being, to talk back to God? Shall what is formed say to the one who formed it, ‘Why did you make me like this?’”
Who are we to argue or disagree with the One who made us? This verse humbles our inner critic and calls us to trust God’s design—even when we don’t understand it or wish we looked different.

13. Psalm 139:13-14 – “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made…”
When God made you, there were no accidents and no oversights. Embracing your body is an act of praise for the One who lovingly formed every inch of you.
14. 1 Samuel 16:7 -“The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
Friend, God doesn’t see what the world sees… I promise. He looks at your heart, not your waistline or wrinkles. This verse invites us to adopt His lens and stop letting surface-level standards determine how we think about ourselves.
15. Proverbs 31:30 – “Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.”
Outer beauty fades (hello, gravity), but a heart that reveres God is eternally attractive. Prioritizing godliness over glam sets us free from the exhausting pursuit of perfection.
16. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 – “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit…? Therefore honor God with your bodies.”
When you become a Christian, you invite God to literally dwell in your body! That truth brings both dignity and responsibility. Instead of obsessing over flaws, we’re called to honor and steward this body with care and gratitude.
No matter how you’re feeling today or what you wish you could look like, I pray you’ll know today that you are loved, valued and cherished by God in every way.
