1. Philippians 4:6-7 – “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Even when we’re feeling anxious about what will happen, God has gone before us and He already knows! We can trust that He holds the future in his hands and there is nothing that will happen that is out of His control.
2. Isaiah 9:6 – “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
The King of Kings is our ultimate ruler and no matter what happens with the election, He still has the final word! the government rests on His shoulder, and He will not abandon us, His children.
3. Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
Even when we don’t know what will happen next, God does! Trust the purpose of God. Wait on Him for the outcome. No matter what happens, there is nothing that He can’t work through.
4. Psalm 46:1 – “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”
In uncertainty and stressful times, God is an ever present help! His great love for you doesn’t stop, no matter who our elected officials are.
5. Isaiah 40:31 – “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
Put your hope in God, not in who sits in the White House or any other branch of the government. Investing your worry and identity in the leaders of this world will only drain you. Turning to God will renew your strength.
6. James 1:5 – “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”
Not sure who to vote for or what issues to support? Ask God for wisdom! He will give it when we come to Him and ask.
7. Matthew 6:33 – “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
Do you want a better community? Stronger leaders? Want to see changes in our country? Seek God first. Build your relationship with HIm, and ask him to begin showing you ways that you can act as God’s servant and start making changes by showing love in your own community!
8. Psalm 121:1-2 – “I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”
My help does not come from the results of national elections. My help comes from the Creator of this entire world! And if you’ve accepted Him as your Savior, yours does too.
9. Romans 8:38-39 – “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
There is no sin, no bad leadership, no loss of religious freedom that can separate you from God’s love for you!
10. Psalm 55:22 – “Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.
Worried about it? Take it to God! He cares, He see you and He can hold you steady through times of anxiety.

God, help our confidence to remain in YOU and not in the results of an election or changes and laws in the world around us.
12. Matthew 6:34 -“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
Easier said than done, right? But we don’t have to worry about what happens tomorrow because the power of God is already there! God wants us to live one day at a time and there’s a lot of wisdom in that.
13. Luke 12:25 – “Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life?”
Our worry accomplishes nothing other than stressing us out and wearing us out. What would it look like to just get okay with not knowing and walking through each day in faith?
14. Joshua 1:9 – “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

God’s design for leaders
Wondering what our leadership should look like, or how we should live and respond to leadership that we don’t necessarily agree with? Check out these Bible verses for election day that are all about God’s design for leaders – in politics and our daily life.
18. Philippians 3:20 ESV – But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.
This world is not our final stop! We are tempeorary citizens here. But while we wait for our permanent home in heaven, we can represent the people of God by being good, godly citizens.
19. Romans 13:1- 2
“Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.
There is no authority except what God has established! This can feel hard to believe when it’s not who you want in charge. But we are called to respect our authorities no matter what.
20. Romans 13:7 – Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.
God puts our leaders in place, and we represent the kingdom of God best to the world around us when we show those in charge both respect and honor.
21. Titus 3:1-2 – “Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and always to be gentle toward everyone.”
We’re commanded in God’s word to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate and to be subject to our rulers and authorities. Even when we don’t agree with everything our leaders do and say, we have a very clear outline in God’s Word for how we are to live and respond.
22. Proverbs 21:1 – “The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord; he turns it wherever he will.”
At the end of the day, God is still in control! No matter who the king (or president) is on the throne, human will is still subject to God’s will, and it always will be.
23. Psalm 33:12 – “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people he chose for his inheritance.”
If we want to get back to being a nation whose God is the Lord, the best thing we can do is bear fruit, set an example and share the hope of Jesus with everyone we encounter. Yes, we should elect leaders who we feel are seeking to do what is right, but we can also begin to change our country and our world with our own lives, from the inside out.
24. Daniel 2:20-21 “Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, to whom belong wisdom and might. He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding;”
Wisdom and knowledge and power are the Lords. He sets up and removes our rulers and the Lord God has the final say. When we serve Him and follow His ways, we’ll find true knowledge and peace for what to do during anxious times when it feels like so much is at stake.
25. Hebrews 13:17 – “Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you.”
Whew! It’s not always easy to have confidence in our leaders, is it? But when we submit to their authority, as long as it doesn’t cause us to sin go against what we believe, we bring glory to God.
26. 1 Peter 2:13, 17 – “Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human authority: whether to the emperor, as the supreme authority / Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor.”
Even when we don’t agree with who is in charge, even if we wish it was someone else, we are to show respect and set an example. By doing this, we can show the presence of God to the culture around us.
27. Psalm 22:28 ESV – “For kingship belongs to the Lord, and he rules over the nations.”
At the end of the day, our communities, our nation, our world – it all belongs to God! When we know that He is in control, we can stress and worry a whole lot less about what happens in our elections here on earth.

Feeling the tension that comes along with election year? Struggling to deal with the fighting, name calling and disagreements that seem to be popping up online and in real life. Here are some great scriptures for disagreements and tension in the present time.
28. Proverbs 15:18 – “A hot-tempered person stirs up conflict, but the one who is patient calms a quarrel.”
Our anger produces nothing good! Ask God to help you be patient and calm, even with the people you disagree with.
29. 1 Timothy 2:1-2 – “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made for all people—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.”
We are to pray for our enemies and even those who are against us. This does something to our own hearts, and the peace that comes from this is a gift of God. Lord, help us to live a peaceful and quiet life that brings honor to you!
30. John 16:33 – “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

31. Hebrews 12:14 – “Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.”
It’s not always easy to live at peace with everyone, but it is a clear biblical command! What can you do to bring peace today in your workplace, family or neighborhood?
32. 2 Chronicles 7:14 – “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
Humility and turning our faces toward God are the beginning of healing. Even a divisive person can change, and praying for them is a great place to start.
33. Colossians 3:15 – “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.”
Focus on the Word of truth, live your daily life focusing on God’s peace. Be thankful for the chance to live in a free country where we can vote, and ask God to help you trust him with the outcome.
34. Hebrews 13:6 – So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?”
No matter what happens, we can be confident that God is in it. He is our ultimate help, and we don’t have to be afraid of any person or group who disagrees with or opposes us.
35. Micah 6:8 – “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
This is the perfect mandate for how we as believers are to live our lives – during election season and outside of it, too. Show justice to others, be merciful and walk humbly with God.
It’s our prayer that these Bible verses for Election Day can bring you peace, wisdom, and trust in God’s sovereignty during election season and beyond!
