I recently was introduced to two men who could not have been any more different in their approach to sharing Christ with others, and as a result God taught me that He can use anyone to bring Glory to Himself … if that anyone is willing to step out in faith and do as God asks.

First I met Tim Hawkins.

If you don’t know who Tim Hawkins is you need look no further than this blog because I have featured his humor here a few times. He takes the “everyday” and talks about it in such a way as to cause otherwise rational human beings to double over clutching their bellies and repeatedly dab their eyes with their shirt sleeves because they cannot stop the unending flow of laughter.

I mean really, when we followers of Christ begin to take ourselves a bit too seriously we need a good hour in front of a Tim Hawkins DVD to make us realize just how very human we are and that we need to love others well!

Let’s think back to what it may have been like for Tim Hawkins when he first started his ministry. He felt a prompting to do comedy but then he started thinking, “Will anyone think I’m funny, will anyone laugh? What if I bomb, what if I offend some people, what if it’s just me telling me to do this and not God?”

He pushed the “what if’s” aside and did as God asked. Tim Hawkins is using humor to reach Christians and to reach those who don’t understand Christians. He is being used by God. God grabbed his heart, then took his talent, asked him to “go for it,” and he is sharing Christ with many. Tim’s ministry has been blessed.

Then I met Nick Vujicic.

Nick Vujicic is a man who was born without arms or legs, his ministry of “Life Without Limbs” travels around the world and he shares the gospel with large crowds who come to hear him speak and no doubt look at his unique physical appearance. Nick allows people a close up look at his life which causes otherwise stoic human beings to ponder God’s grace and repeatedly dab their eyes with their shirt sleeves because they cannot grasp the unending flow of God’s love exuding from this man. A man who could have every right to be bitter … but chooses love.

I mean really, when we followers of Christ do not realize the depth of God’s love and His ability to use us for His purposes, no matter what our lives look like, we need to hear NIck’s story and realize just how big God is … if we are willing.

I am guessing when Nick Vujicic first started his ministry he had doubts and though he felt a prompting to speak about God’s love I am sure he wondered, “Will anyone take me seriously, will they pity me? What if I fail, what if I scare some people, what if it’s just me telling me to do this and not God?”  He pushed the “what if’s” aside and did as God asked.

This man is using his set of life circumstances to draw people to him, and to tell them about the God he loves. He introduces people to Christ. He is being used by God. Nick’s ministry has been blessed.

As I have pondered why I met these two very different men with two very different ministries, God has made me very aware of Himself and His ways.

So, Mom … what does God have for your children’s future and are you making sure they know Him? Has He grabbed your child’s heart? Strive daily to prepare your child to answer the call and do as God asks.
