The God Who Always Is

Have you ever met someone who always seems to be changing?

They change jobs more often than you can keep count. They rotate hair colors every season. Rearranging furniture and redecorating rooms is their favorite pastime. They’re always learning a new hobby or giving up on an old one.

As humans, we’re always evolving and growing. And nothing makes that more evident than the almost constant change and growth we see in our kids.

How we would describe ourselves most certainly changes over the years. We don’t wear the same jeans we wore in high school (although maybe we would if they still fit!) Most of us probably have changed our interests a bit over time.

Life and change are seemingly synonymous.

But when it comes to God – when it comes to where I place my faith and trust, I’m SO glad we serve a God who stays the same.

[verse reference=”John 8:58″]Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.[/verse]

In John 8, Jesus is defending himself to the Jews, explaining to them exactly who He is and why he came.

This verse always seemed a little confusing to me. But what He reveals is that because Jesus is the Son of God and He IS God, he exists outside the confines of time.

Before the beginning of time, before Abraham, Jesus was who He is right now, at this moment.

Friend, that’s good news.

If God is the Great I AM, that means the same God who sits with you in your loneliness is the God who gave you the gift of your kids.

The God who healed you when you were sick is the same God who controls the weather.

The God who stood with you in those mountaintop moments is the same God who comforts you in the valleys.

Our life may change. Our jobs may change. Our kids will certainly change. But our God is still I AM.

[verse reference=”Revelation 1:8″]I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.[/verse]

He is the One who is and was and is to come.

If you are in a season of change, pleasant or unpleasant, know that you have something to hold on to.

The same God who has been with you since the very beginning has already gone before you. He knows every twist and turn, every winding road by heart. He always has been and He always will be. There is nothing and no one outside the realm of His control.

You are His – a daughter of the King. I AM still is, and He always will be.
