Short prayer for teachers

Last Updated on July 5, 2024

It’s the season of releasing our children into the hands of teachers and caregivers. And it can be frightening! We have so little control over what happens when we’re not around. Here’s a short prayer for teachers and caregivers as school begins.

Back-to-school nights, parent-teacher conferences, adjustments for some kids, a teacher who doesn’t click with your child, and Mom deluged with paperwork … does this sound like your house?

Naturally, we pray for our children, but do we remember to pray regularly for their teachers and caregivers? They are our partners in parenting. Our attitude should be how can I serve them? What can I do to make their jobs easier? How can I encourage them?

One of the most important things we can do is to pray for them. Here’s a prayer you might pray for your child’s teacher or caregiver.

A Short Prayer for Teachers and Caregivers

Dear God,

I know my child so well. I understand how he is made and what his needs are. But I have to trust other people with him! I have to release him to the care of teachers, babysitters, and child-care centers. This frightens me.

What if the babysitter doesn’t pay close enough attention, and something terrible happens? What if the teacher hurts my son’s feelings? He is so tenderhearted, and she might not realize that. What if something scary happens at a friend’s house? What if the people I leave my child with are in some way unsafe or not able to care for him adequately?

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. … how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!” (Matthew 7:7–8,11b)

Please free me from this fear, Lord. Give me your peace (John 14:27). Father, hide my child in the shadow of your wings (Psalm 17:8). Protect him by the power of your name, wherever he is at this very moment (John 17:11).

Give my child discernment and awareness. Let him tell me quickly if there is ever anything unsafe about his situation. Keep my child from harm at the hands of those he trusts.

Give us godly caregivers. Specifically I pray for __________ and _________. Bless them as they care for my child today. Give them supernatural patience and gentle understanding (Ephesians 4:2).

Give them wisdom as they correct and guide my child (Proverbs 29:15). Help them to lead my child in paths of righteousness (Psalm 23:3).

I ask that today you would enable his teacher to encourage him to persevere at something he finds difficult, such as _________. I know that it delights you when I pray specifically.

Thank you that you have a tender heart toward all children and that you care deeply about the well-being of my child. (Mark 10: 13–16)

Amen.

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened…How much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!
