Mama, God Sees You in Your Overwhelm

Last Updated on February 22, 2021

If you could see me right now, things look a little different than they do on my Instagram account.
I’ve been wearing the same hoodie for the last two days.
My sink is full of dishes.
The baby is finally sleeping after a day full of fussiness, tears, and runny noses.
Toys are scattered everywhere, and my to-do list is a mile long.
It seems to creep in even on those days and weeks where it seems like everything should be going well. And if you’re anything like me, you always somehow manage to place expectations on yourself that are impossible to hold up to, especially for the season of life that you’re in.
As moms, in our minds, we know that we can’t do and control everything. But it’s easy to fall into the trap of trying anyway. We disconnect from the Father, consumed by our trying and achievement and desire for perfection. This leaves us anxious, stressed, and overwhelmed.
[verse reference=”Matthew 11:28″]Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.[/verse]
On the days where the laundry is piling, and our obligations are looming, I’m learning to stop.
Take a moment. Take a deep breath. And ask God for clarity.
I promise no matter how busy you are, you can do this too.
How would our lives change if every morning, we asked God to set our priorities?
“God, show me what you would have me see. Lead me to what you would have me do. Help me to be a light for my family and the people around me. Give me peace, and make me a conduit of your peace.”
Mama (and dads if you’re reading this), God sees you in your overwhelm.
He is with you in this season of financial strain, family drama, messy houses, and sleepless nights.
And He doesn’t want you to just “figure it out.”
He wants you to come to Him, leave your cares with Him, and find rest for your soul.
[verse reference=”1 Peter 5:7″]Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.[/verse]
