My four-year-old son Jayden has an incredibly creative mind. In one conversation we can be talking about the cookie he’s eating, then suddenly we’re discussing flying through galaxies.
On an average day, he can be an animal, a flying superhero, AND a robot with super blaster speed. (Not sure what this is, but I sure hear about it a lot.)
His mind goes nonstop, and it’s full of the most interesting, creative, silly ideas. And because he’s 4, none of what he’s saying seems impossible to him.
Watching my son helps me get a better understanding of exactly WHY Jesus wants us to come to him like children…

He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.[/verse]
Cultivating Child-Like Faith
Have you ever heard the phrase “child-like faith”? It’s something I aspire to and have been focusing lately on asking God to give me.
Because as we get older, we tend to lose our wonder. We get our feelings hurt and experience the bad parts of life. We gain a whole lot of knowledge about a whole lot of things. But in most cases, this also makes it harder for us to have faith.
We read about the incredible miracles God did in the Bible and we believe they really happened. But it’s much harder to believe that God could still do those miracles for us today.
At 4, Jayden still believes everything is possible and God can do anything. So when we read his storybook Bible together, it’s not hard for him to believe that every word is true.
Every miracle really happened.
God made our entire world out of nothing.
Lazarus was raised back to life.
The Lord provided food from the sky for His people.
Jesus rolled the stone away and walked out of his grave.
Every single miracle is true. There’s no such thing as impossible.
The Business of Impossible
My son reminds me that despite my doubts, God hasn’t changed. His character and nature are still the same. Our God is STILL in the business of doing impossible things.

The next time your kids are playing, take a few moments to pay attention. Note their wonder, and then ask the Lord to give you that same wonder in your own faith.
I trust that if we ask Him to open our eyes and increase our faith, He will do it.
