Easter is on the way! And there’s no better way to celebrate than sharing Easter Bible verses that help your kids remember the reason that we celebrate! Here are 21 simple Easter Bible verses that you can share with your kids, plus a free printable for memorization!

“Mom, why do we celebrate Easter again?” We were driving around in the car a few days ago when my 7-year-old asked this question. I immediately felt mom-guilt like, “Yikes! Maybe I haven’t drilled this in enough.” But instead, I chose to see it as an opportunity.

On the drive home we talked about the story of Jesus, the son of God and how the Easter story isn’t about Easter baskets. It’s about how Christ Jesus came to earth and died for us so we can spend forever with God. 

Now over the next few weeks, I decided to spend a bit of bedtime each day sharing from God’s Word leading up to Easter Sunday. Pulling out simple Bible verses for Easter seemed like a great way to celebrate Holy Week as a family.

From Palm Sunday to Resurrection Sunday, it’s our prayer that this list of verses to share with your child will be helpful for you and your family this Easter season as well!

As a bonus, we’ve included some free printables to cut out and share with your kids if you’d like to use these as a memory verses!

What verses tell the story of Easter?

Easter is all about the good news of the new life we have through Jesus and the forgiveness of sins. There’s no better way for us to help our kids understand the sacrifice Jesus made for us than by taking them straight into the Word of God. Here is a list of great Bible verses for kids that tell the story of Easter in an easy-to-understand way. 

John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

1 Corinthians 15:3-4: “For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.”

Romans 10:9: “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

1 Thessalonians 4:14: “For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.”

Philippians 2:8: “And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!”

Isaiah 53:5-6 (NLT): But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed. All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him the sins of us all.

John 3:17: “For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.”

Colossians 2:13-14 (NLT): “You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. ​

1 Peter 2:24: “He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.”

Romans 5:6-8: “You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Romans 6:8: “Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him.”

Romans 6:9: “For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him.”

Revelation 1:17b-18a: “Don’t be afraid! I am the First and Last. I am the living one. I died, but look–I am alive forever and ever!”

Bible verses about Jesus death and resurrection

When we think about the foundation of our Christian faith, the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ stand out as one of the most pivotal events. The Bible is filled with verses that beautifully capture the significance of these moments and God’s great power to defeat death forever!

Sharing these popular Bible verses about the resurrection of the Lord Jesus with our kids and in our Easter celebrations are a simple way to find hope and strength in our daily lives.

Just like how Jesus’ death and resurrection brought new life and redemption to all who believe in Him, these verses can inspire our kids as well and encourage the to put their trust in God, the Author of Life. 

John 11:25: “Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.”

​Luke 24:5-6: “In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, ‘Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen!'”

Matthew 28:6: “He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.”

Luke 24:6a: “He is not here; he has risen!”

Mark 16:6: “Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him.”

1 Corinthians 6:14: “And God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by his power.

Colossians 2:12: “Having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through your faith in the working of God.”

1 Peter 1:3 (NIV): “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.”
