We just finished day 4 of Vacation Bible School here this week. It has been a wonderful and amazing time for all of us. And although the VBS Dance Team is a bit more of a workout than I thought it would be, I am choosing to praise God that he’s allowing these 36 year old legs to keep up (I’m also praising Him for aspirin and bubble baths!)

One of the things they ask the kiddos every day is ‘How did you see God today?’ or ‘Where did you see God work today?’ I love how VBS week gives ME a new chance to look at all the wonderful gifts God gives me every day. For awhile now I’ve been doing something special at bedtime. I ask each of my children what their ‘high’ and ‘low’ is of the day. Then I ask them to tell me what they are thankful for before we pray. We’re still working on being specific in what we’re thankful for, but I like drawing attention to the little things.

VBS only lasts for one week… but I want to instill in all of us the habit of seeing God in the details and praising and thanking Him every day. Since I have some poster board left over from the Father’s Day signs we made, we’re going to make ‘God Sighting’ posters. Everyday we’ll write or draw pictures of the little things we see on the poster. Each of my children will get their own poster and we’ll tape them to their doors so it is handy at bedtime. I’m hoping by the end of the Summer we’ll have run out of room.

Your challenge today… is to find a way to notice and record where and how you see God in your daily life. You can use a poster board like we are, or a journal, or even notebook paper. Just find a way to record all the ways your children see God every day.

  1. What an amazing idea! I can’t wait to try it out with my kids right after we get back from camp.
