A Prayer for Teachers and Caregivers

It’s the season of releasing our children into the hands of teachers and caregivers. And it can be frightening! We have so little control over what happens when we’re not around. Here’s a prayer you might pray for your child’s teacher or caregiver.

Dear God,

I know my child so well. I understand how he is made and what his needs are. But I have to trust other people with him. I have to release him into the care of teachers, babysitters, and child-care centers. This frightens me.

What if the babysitter doesn’t pay close enough attention and something terrible happens? What if the teacher hurts my son’s feelings? He is so tenderhearted, and she might not realize that. What if something scary happens at a friend’s house? What if the people I leave my child with are in some way unsafe or not able to adequately care for him?

Please free me from fear, Lord. Give me your peace.* Father, hide my child in the shadow of your wings.* Protect him by the power of your name, wherever he is at this very moment.* Give my child discernment and awareness-let him tell me quickly if there is ever anything unsafe about his situation. Keep my child from harm at the hands of those he trusts.

Give us godly caregivers. Specifically I pray for _________and __________. Bless them as they care for my child today. Give them supernatural patience and gentle understanding.* Give them wisdom as they correct and guide my child.*

Help them to lead my child in paths of righteousness.*

I ask that today you would enable his teacher to encourage him to persevere at something he finds difficult such as _________. I know it delights you when I pray specifically. Thank you that you have a tender heart toward all children and that you care deeply about the well-being of my child.*

Scripture references (in order of starred references in prayer): John 14:27, Psalm 17:8, John 17:11; Ephesians 4:2; Proverbs 29:15; Psalm 23:3; Mark 10:13-16

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened…How much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! (Matthew 7:7-8,11)

  1. THANK YOU! I needed this at this exact moment. I witnessed something with my child and another child that really concerned me. I wanted to step in and handle it but God held my tongue and helped me step back and my son handled the situation. I also have found my self worrying about him in different settings. Thanks so much. I am printing this for each of my children.

If you’re human, and especially if you’re a mom, your answer will be, “Yes!” I recently called into a business meeting, but since my Continue »

Motherhood vs. My Personal Goals

Earlier this year, there were a few weeks that presented many schedule challenges. Inclement weather caused cancelled school and activities. The kids were home. The kids were bored. The kids were needy. That meant the mom’s schedule changed, too. Worse, my daughter with autism didn’t understand that icy roads meant we couldn’t go for a Continue »
