Mother's Day Expectations

Last Updated on April 9, 2024

For any mom who has ever found herself disappointed by her Mother’s Day expectations, take note! Here’s an easy tip to help make this your best Mother’s Day yet.

I hope Mother’s Day this year holds all the joys and home made treasures that you hope for. But if there is a chance you will be disappointed if the celebration isn’t all that you anticipate, allow me to make a practical suggestion!

I’ve always thought it was fabulous that Mother’s Day and Father’s Day come so close together, because it gives us the opportunity to have a discussion with Dad and make a plan together for how to celebrate these special days with our children.

Rather than wait and see what they come up with, if you have an idea of how you would like Mother’s Day celebrated (and Father’s Day), just have a discussion with hubby, or for our single moms – your parents, or a friend and let your desires be known!

I know we have all heard it said that we cannot expect others in our lives to be mind readers – this is true especially for Mother’s Day!

We need to communicate to give those who love us every opportunity to love us well when it comes to meeting our expectations for Mother’s Day.

It used to annoy me when my husband would ask what I would like to do for Mother’s Day because I thought he should be able to figure something out on his own. Then I realized he wanted to make sure he hit the mark on what I was expecting. So take it from me, communicating expectations turns out to be a win for everyone and allows lots of smiles and giggles on Mother’s Day!

Not sure what to ask for? Think about creative experiences you can enjoy as a family, like a family picnic at your favorite park, a night where the kids cook you dinner, or even an at-home spa day that ends with your favorite movie.

Not sure what to ask for or how you want to spend the day? You can find even more great cheap and free Mother’s Day ideas in this list of gift ideas for Christian moms and this list of great daily Bible studies she’ll love.

Above all, regardless of how you are celebrated on Mother’s Day I hope you embrace the truth that God has called you to be THE mom to the children He has entrusted to you.

You may think all you do goes unnoticed, but indeed the creator of the universe sees and makes note of each tedious and tender MOMent.

Happy Mother’s Day, everyone!
