hands-thumbs-up

As I write these words, all of my children are home, for a little while. With 10 kids, it is very difficult to get everyone in the same place at the same time for any length. College in different states, work schedules and activities keep us going in many directions. Today I am basking in the goodness of having them all together. There are people everywhere. Our den would seem quite crowded to many folks, but to me, it feels just fine.

It has been almost 25 years of raising children and we still have at least another 14 to go before our youngest graduates from high school. There have been many nights when I felt so exhausted wondering how I could speed up the process of getting to the stage where so many friends our age are: empty- nesters. But today, I am overflowing with the many expressions of love in this home. Laughter everywhere! Healthy competitions all around and jokes galore. It just hit me that I am filthy rich.

Most people in this world think rich is only measured by a big bank account. I have realized that I have so much more than what’s in my account at the bank around the corner. I have tons of richness here in my home. It will last me until the end of my life, and I can see that this measure of wealth will carry on in our legacy for generations to come.

When we were having our children, one right after the other, there were many trials and things we had to trust God for and wait.

But now that the years have flown by, I realize that God was giving me so much more than I could have ever dreamed by giving me children.

[verse reference=”Psalm 127:1-5″]Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain. In vain you rise early and stay up late; toiling for food to eat— for He grants sleep to those he loves. Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their opponents in court.[/verse]

When God gives you an inheritance, it will never run out! HIS INHERITANCE WILL LAST FOREVER!

As someone who is in the stage of lots of little ones, one right after another and 7 months pregnant, I thank you so much for your words of encouragement! I was just feeling too tired to get supper going, but now I can get up and do what I need to do to care for my family.

    1. Jennifer,
I pray that you will always count your children as a special inheritance from God. (Also, keep little things like chicken nuggets, corn and steamed broccoli in your freezer). We all need a 15 minute complete meal every once in a while.
      God has richly blessed you.

        Robyn,
I really look forward to reading more of your posts. I crave the influence of Titus 2 women who have some adult children. It means so much for you to tell me that all the work I am doing is not in vain! My six boys are 13, 10, 8, 5, 3, and 1. Baby is due in March. I love them so much, but most of the women I come in contact with who have adult children think I am crazy! However, I have a vision of leaving such a Godly heritage of young men who will be strong, loving leaders of their families one day.

I agree, Robyn. This year I had all my eight kids, plus spouses, plus grandkids home for Christmas for 5 full days. It was such a blessing and so much craziness. It makes me laugh until I cry to watch them together, and to see how God has worked in each of their lives to bring them to where He wants them to be. When they were young and we used to get asked the question, “Are they all yours” or “Are you crazy”, I am saddened that people have forgotten that children are a blessing. Thanks for your encouraging words.

    1. So welcomed, Brenda. So glad to call you “family”.

  4. Well spoken Truth! MOM is smiling Rob! :oD
